Director's Message

Welcome Families and Friends of Watts Learning Center,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Watts Learning Center and share about the work we do.

The Watts Learning Center strives to be a beacon of light and hope, not only in South Los Angeles but throughout the world. Our staff, students, and families work tirelessly and intentionally to ensure that we offer a robust and rigorous program. We have high expectations and allocate the resources needed to help our school community reach our goals.

Watts Learning Center is committed to both the academic performance and the overall well-being of our students. At our school, we pair our highly qualified teachers with the implementation of well-researched curricula to ensure that we meet the needs of every student. While our core curriculum ensures that students are learning grade-level standards, we differentiate to meet the needs of both our students who may need additional support and those who are performing above grade level. In addition to our academic program, Watts Learning Center provides students enrichment classes; classes include - yoga, dance, PE, music, and engineering. To meet the social and emotional needs of our students, we incorporate social-emotional learning and restorative justice practices throughout our school building and day. Our staff and families also collaborate to ensure that our academic and PBIS systems support the success of our students. Collaboration and feedback are ongoing and welcomed! There is much that the Watts Learning Center is working to accomplish; we could not do it without collaboration between our staff, families, students, and community members. It is an honor to be entrusted with our children.

Lastly, in the words of Angela Y. Davis, “I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept.”

At the Watts Learning Center, we do not accept the assumption/systemic structures that seek to count our children out. We are working to change the narrative and the outcomes for our children. We welcome you to join us on our journey to lifelong learning and excellence!
